Is midnight 12 AM or 12 PM?
Midnight is 12:00 AM. It is the first moment of a new day, written 00:00 on a 24-hour clock. Noon is 12:00 PM.
Because the two are easy to mix up, many schedules write 11:59 PM or 12:01 AM instead of 12:00.
Handy for deadlines
Many forms, assignments and sales close at 11:59 PM, a minute before midnight. Keep this countdown open to see how much time you really have. It uses your device’s clock, so travel or a wrong clock setting changes the result.
Other ways to use it
- Wait for a release or a sale that starts at midnight.
- Build a calm wind-down routine before bed.
- Watch the last minutes of a birthday or an anniversary.
- On New Year’s Eve, use the New Year countdown, which also counts the days.
