How it works
- Set the shortest and the longest time in minutes.
- Press Start a random timer. The length is chosen at random in that range.
- With Keep the time a secret on, the numbers are hidden until the chime.
Games that need a random timer
- Hot potato: pass an object until the timer rings.
- Musical chairs or freeze dance without a DJ.
- Surprise tidy-up challenges in class.
- Random check-ins during study time.
Fair and unpredictable
The length is chosen evenly across the range, so every second in it is just as likely. The Circle style shows that time is passing without giving away how much is left.
Questions and answers
Can I see the random time?
Turn off Keep the time a secret and the timer shows the numbers as usual.
Can I use seconds?
Yes. Use decimals for parts of a minute, for example 0.5 for thirty seconds.
Does it pick a new time each round?
Each press of Start a random timer picks a new length. Press Reset and the same length runs again.
Is the timer truly random?
It uses your browser’s random number generator, which is more than random enough for games.
