Why people like sand timers
A sand timer shows time as an amount, not a number. Anyone in a hurry can see at once how much is left, even from across the room.
The on-screen version adds what glass can’t: any length, a pause button and a chime at the end.
In class and at home
Put the sand timer on the board for group work, or on a tablet next to the sink for brushing teeth. Turn off the sound for quiet rooms.
Questions and answers
What sizes of sand timer are there?
Common glass sizes are 1, 2, 3, 5 and 10 minutes. Here you can also set any other length with Custom.
Can I pause the sand timer?
Yes. Press Pause and the sand stops where it is. Press Resume to carry on.
Is an hourglass the same as a sand timer?
Yes. Both names describe glass bulbs with sand running between them. “Sand timer” is more common for short kitchen and game timers.
Does it make a sound?
A soft chime plays when the sand has run out. Turn it off with the Sound button.
